Ankara is the capital of Turkey. It has a population of 5.2 million placing it second only to Istanbul. For most of its history, it was Angora.Early settlements of Ankara date back to the Bronze Age. When it comes to historical significance, Ankara plays a significant role in both the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. It was also a major capital of the Ottoman Empire, being the Capital of their Angora vilayet (division). In modern day, most of the economy of Ankara is driven by the federal government and the ministries that make it up.
